Waiting For The Boat To America

The hustle and bustle of life waiting on the Queenstown (Cobh, Co. Cork) docks is on display in this vivid print from a wood engraving, titled Emigrants Leaving Queenstown for New York. People of different social classes can be seen waiting for the boat, from the boy without shoes in the foreground to the men with top hats in the background.

The image was published in Harper's Weekly on 26 Sept, 1874.
