From Mayo To Minnesota And On To Washington

When we start out with our family history research the journey can often be a lot smoother than anticipated due to the work of a previous, and possibly unknown, relation who has already conducted much research.  Their write-ups and books can be a great find.

The publications that go beyond the names and dates can also be of benefit to non-family members if they include information about a migration that the ancestors of the information seeker took part in.

One such example, from one part of Ireland to a place in the U.S. or Canada, is a charming document written by James Hoban. As well as giving all the important information about his ancestors, he focuses on the migration of people from the Ballyhaunis area of Co. Mayo to Minnesota and Washington states.

You can read the document here.
